I'm trying to figure what kind of nerves that my Rottie has, I need help to pin it.
What I have is a Rottie that seems to have nerves of steel when it comes to new training ideas, weather climbing 10' slide ladders and sliding down to civil agitation from a decoy, she seems to have no fear.
But she is not that way with common household or lawn appliances. If I have them in a down while vaccumming the house or cutting the yard, she gets nervous with the vaccumm she will go into another room or just outside the door. With the Mower she will re-position herself staying a good 5' foot away.
Does this show anything about her nerves or stability or is it just a lack of socailizing with these applicance? Is it a nervous problem or is it that she has never been socialized properly around these applainces (though I try to make them a part of everything I do around the house).
I bring the socailized problem up because I have suffer damages to the vaccumm cleaner and mower when they are cut off and unattended around her.
She bit the spark wire apart on the lawn mower and destroyed the plactic attachments of the vac.
The male he use to bark at the vaccumm cleaner as a pup, but now he acts like neither applicances don't bother him. You can wet vaccumm (drying and combing through their hair is the purpose of this after a swim or bath)him and he will just stand there, or maybe flip over if it gets to feeling too good. You have to keep calling her back in place to wet vac her.
What do you think? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
I'd say it may be a matter of conditioning. If we are sound in most other areas, this is new.. and may just be putting just enough distance between ourselves and the noise to feel that we can react. Not a chronic problem? Don't worry..
Start with the noise farther away and gradually move closer over a period of days. Bet it solves the problem.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. As for staying away from the mower, smart dog. These things make loud noises that can be high pitched and hurt delicate ears.
