First time poster here!
I have a 2 y/o female shep/husky mix. She was a feral dog, very shy with people, but great with other dogs. She is obedience trained.
Enter GSD mix male puppy. He's almost 7 months old. He is in obedience (more like boot camp)and does well, hasn't challenged me yet. I'm on him if he ever does.
The older female has corrected the male pup a few times. No blood, just the noise and going for the neck. It's over before it starts.
What is the appropriate correction, if any, if their prongs are not on? I don't want to verbally correct the older dog if she is doing what she is supposed to be doing.
If this is just her teaching the pup the rules, how long does this go on for. I know at some point he is going to fight back, and they are never unsupervised together.
They are separated during the day. Will they ever coexist peacefully? I have always had two dogs, but they ignored each other.
Thanks for any input. I am probably going to be fired from my job b/c I am soaking in everything this site has to offer all day.
