I believe he died about 5 weeks ago. My knowledge of Mals is far from great but he seems like a very good producer. Alot of his offspring are competing in IPO, Ring and KNPV. I am looking at some Mals at the moment and he is in their pedigrees and from the breeder I was told that he can produce dogs that are not overly social (ie neutral to strangers).
Anyway I have no doubt that others will be able to give a better picture of him than I can.
My young Mal (Aera van Joefarm) is an Elgos daughter from his last breeding. I believe he was over 13 years old when he bred Thora (my pups mother). I had the priveledge of meeting him when in Belgium in September of 2001.
He produces GRIPS, GRIPS, GRIPS!!! I have just started working my young female in protection so I can't tell you much more yet.
I was just in contact with Nicky and Bertrand but they didn't tell me Elgos had died. He has influenced the Malinois very much in many dog sports. Appi Kamps KNPV champion was an Elgos son.
As cindy said, Elgos is wellknown for his grip, he has been to five worldchampionships in mondioring, and placing very high, he also is one of the most used studdogs which have produced many service and toplevel sportdogs. Elgos has a son, Saxo des deux pottois, which was imported from Belgium to Sweden to be used as a breedingdog for servicedogs. Saxo is a very good dog, has produced about 30 litters of service and toplevel sportdogs, he has also passed the swedish policedogtest with great result, very good in different environments, good prey and aggression. One negative thing with Elgos, I think, is that he has been used very much, hard to find a mal without Elgos in the pedigree.
You can read more about Saxo on the breeders site, http://www.blacknecks.nu
Elgos has produced great dogs. I have had several of his sons for police service work. One I never should have let go of named Yelgos. Most are quite social very steady stable dogs which are sure in most any environment.
Currently i am importing a son to replace the dog I announced as having been killed during a deployment last week.

Hello All:
Speaking of Elgos, I am told that he produces very good grips and tends to thrown very dark colored dogs. Are there any downsides like hips or elbows or problems that one should be aware of? What about the nerves? Also what about the social openess to strangers, etc? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brandon
