I aquired a Mal bitch two months ago. This is the first Mal I have ever owned and she is a little different than other breeds I have had in the past. I really do like her and think shes a fun dog. She is 11 months old and lived in a kennel with about twenty other dogs until I got her. She has been in the house with no problems housebreaking until now. In the last week she has started using my house and patio as her bathroom area. I have a huge backyard and take my dogs on a long walk daily.(live on a farm) Has also not wanted to obey commands(basic obedience) acts like she doesn't hear me. Is this some sort of adolecent defiance?
She has a very soft temperment...acts like I've commited a crime against her with the least bit of scolding! I'm beginning to wonder if she is as soft as I think. As of today she is in her outside kennel and will be sleeping in her crate tonight Any insight on this behavior will be appreciated.
Maybe she is coming into her first season? My mal female is handler sensitive to some degree but when she is in season if you even look at her the wrong way she just melts......... yet ignores me when I call her or tell her to sit, etc..
That would have been my inital thought but, she had her first cycle in Dec. so has been out for about 3wks. Hopefully, this is a passing thing. Her attitude was much different by late afternoon....nothing like a nice time out! This one is going to make me think a little differently. Have had rotties, aussi cattle dog schipperke and rat terrier over the last 15 or so years...no soft dogs in the group!
