He makes such a mess if I feed him in his kennel. I put water in his food and he makes a huge mess when he eats. If I don't put water in his food and give him fresh water outside he won't drink it. He will take the dish tho and spill the water all over. I use stainless steel dishes and he loves to use them as toys. One thing I do to force feed him water is let some Innova soak in water for half hour but I mix his food with some raw meat and sometimes I put anchovies in his food so when he makes a mess the kennel smells like fish. He has an extra large kennel and its a pain to take it out and rinse. Any one else go thru this? Or do I just have a mad dog?
Put the food and water in buckets and use bolt snaps to secure the bucket handle to the crate or kennel. Get the SS buckets that have the hook on one side that allows it to hang. When secured to the crate or kennel, the dog is less likely to to be able to knock it off and spill the food/water. Also, drop the Anchovies until you sort this out, or you'll continue having to clean up a stinking mess.
Another thing, take the bowls/buckets out as soon as he's done eating, that way he can't play with them. If you put the food in and all he wants to do is play with it, take it away, and try again later in the day. If he plays with his food he doesn't get to eat. Pretty soon he'll be hungry enough to just eat the food, then he'll start to realize that he has a limited time frame to eat, and should stop screwing around.
