So I just return from K9 Basic Training (Christmas Break) with my new partner Airus, soon to be patrol/narcotics dog. In my packet of papers is his pedigree. His father, Ulani Van Joefarm (Nitro). His mother, Acea De Gladeau.
So I start plugging names into Google... Bibber Des Deux Pottois gave me a good return.. and where do I end up?? At Cindy's site, with a picture of my boy as a pup... and mention that Will Rambeau as being somehow related (wink).
Hey Matt!
Congrats on your new partner!
I was fortunate enough to see Nitro in action at a few trials, which was the whole reason I decided to get a Mal as a competition dog - he was really something to watch in protection!
That being said, Nitro was perhaps the ugliest dog that I'd ever seen ( at least that wasn't chained up in a junkyard).
Fortunately, Cindy's litter all got her bitch's good looks.
I am well pleased with my boy, and handling/training a new breed ( for me ) was just what I needed to regain my love for the sport.
I wish you and your new partner many happy felony busts in the future!
Thanks Will and Debbie... we are getting to know and apriciate each other more every day. He has been quick to bond with me after two days of growls when we met.
Tomorrow he starts his first week of "field training" at work before we return for the remainder of our basic training. Socialization to the sights and sounds of Pittsburgh and to the officers at work is the goal.
During every training session we have been to, someone has come up and asked me where he was from and what his lines are. The intensity and stability he shows when working is amazing.
Unfortunatly, I had no answers for those questions!! I was able to track down Brett Simon (Nitro's Owner) Now with your help I hope to fill in the blocks!
PM or E-mail me any additional info you may have, Pics are always welcome!!
Mike,
I suspect any puppy coming from a breeding out of Nitro will have drive and grips to die for. I count myself lucky to be one of the many happy Nitro puppy owners ( Thanks Cindy! ) although as I've joked before, I'm glad that Buttercup got his mother's good looks!
There's alot of threads in which the difference between Mal and GSD drives are discussed, it'd be worth your time to just go back thru the Mal forum here and spend a little time looking those posts over - it'll likely answer alot of questions that you may have.
Your previous experience in dog training, depending on what breeds you've trained before, will be a big factor in what changes you'll need to make to train a Mal.
Wow you have Airus? He was the most adorable puppy. I saw Airus and his sister back in April 03. His sister was awesome as well as Airus. I know Nitro and Fay (Brett's current litter). Both dogs are nice. I would recommend a puppy from this litter. I also got to know all of Nitro and Aera's puppies .. It was Mal Mania at Cindy's LOL.
Thanks Karmen! According to our trainers at Northcoast who have worked quite closely with Nitro, Airus has drive equal to his father but is a tad bit more level headed. So far, he has been a joy to work with and learn from.
I have seen his sister training in the blind... She is his twin...only smaller!
Hehe..."Tad more level headed" - that translates to: " He doesn't eat the handler nearly as often"!
After watching Nitro at the DPO portion of the GSDCA/WDA Nationals, I think that a smart criminal would sign a confession and place himself into the back of the patrol car rather than attempt an escape from Nitro.
