Pedro, keep the faith. I love my dobes but one has to be realistic. Dobermanns are not a viable option for police. The best dobes are more than capable of service, this is not the problem. The problem lies with the supply of decent numbers of them. The working abilities of the show dobes in Europe is declining in the same way that the show GSD have. The GSD has large numbers of working kennels breeding dogs for police etc. You can count the numbers of working dobe kennels and not run out of fingers. The working gene pool is getting smaller by the day. The working GSD gene pool is greater in number than the entire combined show/working dobe gene pool.
This not just a dobe thing but is also reflected in the Giant's, Bov's, Rott's. There are two police breeds, Mals and GSD. Some Dutchies. The reason is that this is where 95% of working people are.
Love my dobes but......

You are both right. There are so few good working Dobermanns that only policemen who are deeply involved in the breed do use them as service dogs.
I have a training club 5 minutes from my house where the helper/director makes it to the nationals every year and has been to the world championship several times. Of course they work with GSD. Instead of going there, I drive for an hour to go to our Dobermann Club training group. I know most likely will never make it to the nationals. It would be a lot easier to get a GSD from working lines, train 5 minutes from home, with the best trainer in the country, etc, etc..., but... NO WAAAYYY JOSEEEY!! I'll keep training my Dobermann until it can't work anymore, and then I'll get another Dobermann!!
