Sorry for the confusion, I DO want stritctly working lines. I've definitely learned my lesson with show dogs. I have worked my bitch and learned a whole heck of a lot with her for the last 2 years. I may get a 1 on her, undecided.
Brad, you can work a sport dog in protection if it'll go into defense drive.
I mainly want a pp dog and to dabble in sch, primarily in the puppy years. Will probably pursue a 1 (or 2 or 3) as a puppy for a strong prey foundation and then switch to personal protection. My ONLY reservation with going strictly working is that I'm a small woman at only 110 pounds. need to be able to handle the dog.
That being said, can you recommend kennels? My club deals mostly with pits, rotties and working shepherds.
thanks
Well it all depends on what you want. Some lines are harder than others. These tend to be the better dog though. Go to the UDS website and look up some of the breeders. Blitzkrieger kennel in Canada is about the best working dog kennel in N. America. Von Asgard, Cedarhof, Von Falkenfeld. Tell us what you want. Do you want a very serious hard dog for down and dirty PP work? Or a sport dog you can handle? These kennels produce both. Goodluck
Hi Brad, Most, if not all, of the couple of Ring titled Dobes in N.America are out of Euro Schutzhund/IPO lines. There might be a few dogs in France that are Ring titled from a few generations of ring dogs, but behind most of those are also Sch./IPO lines too. Even most of the certified Police Dobes are from Sch./IPO bloodlines, I believe.
Thanks for the info Brad, and others. This gives me a place to start. Now I have to figure out if they'll give me first pick male! If all else fails, I'm on the waiting list for a leerburg shepherd
