We always talk about European Dobermanns being so superior to those from other parts of the world, where there are mostly show dogs.
Well, I think here in Europe we have mostly show dogs that cannot do sport to a high level and then a few working Dobermanns that can be called as such, owned by a minority of people who focus on training their dogs and breed for performance.
I think that's the same all over. Maybe the difference is not so obvious in Europe, but when it comes down to getting a real working dog, there are very few, while there are thousands of show puppies that you can get from hundreds of breeders all over the continent.
When I first came here I thought Europe would be the answer to finding a good one but I can see now since coming here I was wrong. Alot of people have given up on this breed because I hear they've upped the tax on it, made many law restrictions and caused breeders to move on to something else.
Because the GSD was much more ideal for law enforcement with their ease of training it was a little easier to still keep many available I assume. If it wasn't for them being used for police and military they would've been nearly dead too by now with their drives. The Malinois hasn't had time for this to happen.
I can't tell you why so many have given up on this breed. Alot of the doberman lovers moved to the Rott I think, because of less health problems and things mill breeders added to the breed. They could still be saved I think. I don't know what the solution is other than restricting dog shows. I wish . . .
