Hi everyone, I was just curious to the maturity of Dobermans?
I owned one before I got Kane.(GSD) He wasnt an excellent bred SchH Doberman that most of you talk about on here. I adopted him as a puppy knowing that he was not from a breading of well known dogs. Now dont get me wrong he was so far the best dog I have ever had. Kane on the other hands is only 4 months so I dont know how he will turn out yet. Anyways... I had him from 7 weeks until 7 1/2 years old. The reason Im asking is because he was my only Doberman I have ever owned and he was always SO playful. I mean up until I lost him at 7 yrs old he still acted like he was 1 year old! He had his calm moments but for the most part he was active and always acted like a "puppy." He listened to me wonderfully but was like a big kid at heart.
Now I have heard the GSDs mature slower than other breeds. How do Dobermans mature compared to other breeds?
Dobies mature fast by comparison to Irish Setters!
Especially if you equate "sedate" and "mature".
My old dobie bitches (with the ex and still going strong at 12 and 13.5) are dead serious and focused when they have a reason to be, and silly, loopy, goofy, busy fools when they don't. The dog dobie is as emotionally mature at 10 years as he was at 10 weeks
One of the bitches is sch III, the other trained through UD.
Yeah I guess thats why he was the way he was. I never asked much of him to the point of being serious other than when he felt that I or him was being threatened...I never went trough any kind of SchH training or the such just my companion that I spoiled rotten. So I guess its just in their nature. I have heard other people say the same... that they can be such clowns but can be very serious when needed. Thank you for your input.
My dobermans matured about the same as my GSDs. Don't confuse activity level with maturity.
My dobes always go at about 90mph. Maybe my Shepherd is just smarter and chooses to only kick it in when needed.
Your right Lynn, I think that just because he was so goofy and "hyper" that I thought of maturity, but I guess it was more of just his activity level. But I see it that way now.
