It is actually a good book, particularly if you plan on doing compitition obedience. All basic and training should be done independant of distrations until the dog is reliable and then move to other areas. The book goes in to good detail on working in new areas and doing proofing. Just because it is based on reinforcement doesn't mean that you can't use corrections.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
Richard, your statement is noted. I was reffering to Lanegirl's statement that she only had to use corrections on the down. I find this hard to believe. The reason I find this hard to believe is becuase I think motivational foundation training is good but if the dog has nothing to fear (correction) I dont think they can be that reliable. I'm not saying the book doesn't recommend proofing, I have never read it, I just went by the title. Oh....thats where that statement came from "never judge a book by it's cover".
Thank you all for the input. But I still have question unaswered - it looks like it is much easier to pickup a good trainer or club in States than in Canada. So far no replies on this.
