hopefully i am at the correct place. greetings all. i just aquaired an 8 wk old gsd pup. in looking through his sire's pedigree, i came accross "sch 3 canto von arminius, 78 seger". can someone tell me what a seger is, and why all the ancesters have a sch.1,2,or 3 in front of their name? all help will be graciously appreciated. just jt.
I'd have the moderator re-post this under "Show-Line GSDs" since it is not a health issue (you'll see why below).
"Sieger" and "Siegerin" are the titles bestowed on male and female dogs that win at major conformation shows done under German rules. There is an SV (German) Sieger, a USA Sieger, an Argentine Sieger, a Canadian Sieger, etc.--although I don't think anyone disputes that the SV and USA titles are the most prestigious and sought-after.
Sch1, Sch2, Sch3 are Schutzhund titles. You can read plenty about Schutzhund both on this web board and on the Leerburg web site, so I won't get into the details here.
To be shown in adult conformation classes under the German system, a German Shepherd Dog must have obtained a working title. This can be either a Schutzhund, IPO, or HGH (herding) title. The dog must also pass an endurance running test called the AD and have been koered (had its structure analyzed by a professional conformation judge and passed a basic protection test).
Canto von Arminius, by the way, was a very well-known show dog.
Van Camp knows that I'm as much of a working-dog kinda guy as he is... I'm just showing off (and trying to irritate him).
That was Booyah. . .like Ta-daaaaow. Like bang, the thread is moved.
There are plenty of siegers that I liked, or would have I think, if I were old enough to have met them.
i thank you all for your time and consideration. i have spent most of the day at google, searching one name at a time.i have discovered my pup's sire has more working line blood than he has show blood. next question is which bloodlines will override the other bloodlines?will bernd vom liergerg have more impact than say, bosko vom besthaus? im just plooding along like a plow mule here. any comments welcome
