good thing that we are all able to change our minds. if we slam the door on certain options we might very well be missing some good opportunities also. while one might not want to do a lot of line breeding on a certain dog, it doesn't mean that dog can't enhance your program in some way. i was one of those people who was leary of the fero bred dogs 10 years ago, but now have two dogs with fero 4 generations back. i don't know how these dogs will turn out, but if they end up with problems it will probably be more from my inept training than any one of a whole bunch of ancestors.
if there are no dogs in heaven, then when i die i want to go where they went. ---will rogers
I'm trying to learn more about breeding and how to look at pedigrees, and I've noticed that almost all comments about what dogs are good or bad for breeding are directed at the males. This thread is a good example: I realize the topic is Fero and Lord, but why do people give seemingly all the credit to these dogs for good/bad progeny when the female paired with them is AT LEAST half responsible? Looking at the amount of breedings both Fero and Lord have done, and then dogs bred to those progeny etc...that is an awful lot of dogs. Then looking at how many Fero progeny have been in the BSP and World Championships--both FCI and WUSV--shows that Fero has contributed to producing dogs who can be trained to the highest sport level and at the same time travel to different countries and perform at the highest sport level. My question is: does anyone know what females' lines pair best with Fero lines to produce a high drive and environmentally sound dog?
