Several years ago they were breeding "Timber Shepherds" and advertising them heavily in "Soldier of Fortune" magazine ( I have a lifetime subscription to that mag, my team members got it for me as a promotion gift...the jokers <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> )
He was also featured *heavily* in the Survivalist magazines in the 1980's during that weird movement.
Oddly, I notice that they don't include all the write ups from the Survival kook journals in the press release portion of his website....*snicker*
But to be fair, I have heard a few positive things about them also ( third hand info )...but the "Timber Shepherd" thing is enough to make me want to steer clear from them.
And this quote has me puzzled:
"Atlanta Weekly, 1989
"Harrison Prather is one of the nation's most renowned dog trainers."
All my years in Altanta, with various SchH clubs and Police departments, and I never once heard his name.....ever. And I've been to I'll bet well over 60 SchH trials in just the South East region of the U.S., and literally hundreds of AKC Obedience trials, but I've never seen him, or any dogs bred by him, in any type of dog trial or competition.
Maybe he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's all done underground, or something..........
And I'm with Alan there....they look an awful lot like show line dogs.....
What a mark up, buy them for 3-4K and mark them up to 20-40K. Who needs to work? Who needs to train? I'm not saying they do that but I guess one could if they had rich enough buyers.
The dogs in the pics seem to have that large size with a red and black coat and that pet dog look to their eyes. Most working dogs are sable, black and tan, bi-color or black, but who knows?
But 43K? Does he make beds, clean floors, do dishes, mow the grass and clean the garage? Ed was offering Aiko at one time for only 5K when he first got him. I tried to buy him but I a was a little late, they decided to keep him. Maybe they should offer him to a rich executive or baseball player for 40K.
I haven't been around that much but my buddy imports 2 year old dual purpose dogs ready to go and sells them to the depts for about 5K, after some finishing touches are put on them.
Someone I know told me her friend bought one for 40K (I can't say it was from this kennel) she had to refinance her house to get him and he died two years later.
