So, VanCamp - you've seen a Alano Espanol in SchH? Not many hundred of them around the world, but what I have red about the breed and heard from a Spanish breeder, they are somewhat unlike most other mastiff breeds - in a positive way.
Please, tell some on the Alano in SchH. Would have been interesting to hear (just for fun :-)

I bought an alano puppy some weeks ago (alano español - not the presa canario). I will try to find out if she has what is need for schutzhund. What I can see at this moment (she is 3 1/2 months) is that she has good prey drive. Also seems very confident and relaxed to everything happening around her. She is not biting full on her toys on the moment - only on my arm! Very independant and not so much pack drive. I'll keep you posted about the development.
If not suitable for shchutzhund, I will do the traditional Norwegian tracking in the forest etc.
How is your work going with your Alano. I own 2 Spanish Alano's and have an inkling to get my female started in some sort of work. I think she has a lot of prey drive, but I do not know anyone locally that provides any guidance. Are you a member of a club that participates in canine sports or do you just train on your own knowledge?
I have only started to do some obedience and tracking with her because she is changing teeths. I will take her to the dobermann club here in Spain in a month or so and start with some bite training (I will go back to Norway in April).
I have a male dobermann that has participated 2 times in the world championship for dobermanns and I am member of a club in Oslo (Norway) that do IPO/SchH training.
I am still not sure how she will develop and it is of course a very different breed to work with than what I am used to, but if SHE wants to cooperate (she is very independant) and work with me I think she can do fine
If you start to work with your female it would be very nice to hear from you how she is doing
