Has anyone used a mastiff type of breed for cattle management? From what I understand they have a whole different method of managing cattle than say a Border Collie, in that they use a more enforcing, loose-eyed method.
Please share if you have worked any mastiff type dogs for cattle. I am wanting to learn more.
I apologize for putting this in the misc protection dog section. I was not sure where to post considering it was not a topic regarding sheep and not a topic regarding GSD's. I thought this might work. Please let me know if there is a better spot for posts like this.
Thanks Darlene for the reply. It was a very informative link you provided, interesting breed as well. I think I have read that they are being used more on ranches out west to ward off predators from flocks.
Boerboel a South African Mastiff have been used in the past for managing cattle or sheep.
I know of a few that are being used today as well.
Boerboels for all their mass are very agile and fast dogs. It's hard to believe a 150 pound dog can move like these can and it's a thing of beauty to watch.
