Hey guys I just got done reading this, and I wanted to add something I don't feel was touched on. Please keep in mind I am very new to dogs and training. Extremely new to AB's and working dogs. In the 2 years that I have been going to shows I have seen about 300 to 600 different GSD's 120 - 160 APBT's and 4 American Bulldogs 1 Scott's, 3 Johnsons. I my self own a Scott that is from a great breeder and line ( has lots of sure grip including sure grip rattler better known as chance from homeward bound ) With all that in mind please allow me to make a statement.
Chevy Vett owners are like GSD owners, every old fart has one and there all the best you have ever seen! As a fact we should all feel so lucky to be around GSD's. You cant take a dog breed that out numbers a dog breed 3000 to 1 ( for every 1 AB you can find 3000 GSD) now for what ever reason this is, its a fact. If you don't believe me I know a Breeder of GSD's in my area that has 50+ dogs on her site at all times (so she says) I had to drive from Chicago to Mississippi, 20 hours in a snow storm to get my AB thats after keeping my eye opened for about 3 months!! In the shows that I have went to in this area the AB's have a way harder hit then the GSD's 9 out of 10 times. I know a hit is nothing with out the "out" but based on the way a AB looks HUGE muscle and giant head , you don't have to worry about sending your dog most people are not going to mess with you! People will find there way across the street fast! Trust me , if you are a cop and you need a service dog , I won't use a AB save the AB more fun and ego stroking contests with friends because there is nothing like seeing a 105lbs dog hang 4 feet from the ground ripping at a tug . I have also seen a AB take a "dog catcher" down at a show ( the same guy who had 4 or 5 GSD's before the AB) NOW I WILL SAY THIS FOR THE MAL AND GSD DOGS ! when you see one do there OB and P.P 9 times outta 10 they rock ! but like already stated thats all they can do! I have never seen a GSD play tug of war and win or run a sprint contest BUT if you want to prove me wrong I would love to take our dogs out and have a privet IRON DOG contest of our own I am sure we can find a few good owners/handlers to come and support that! We can make sure camera are running and judges are watching. Please how ever don't take this the wrong way I am not saying I don't like MAL , GSD or anything. I take pleasure in knowing that I have something that is hard to see everyday but people know what they are! Some how for the shortage of American bulldogs people never ask me what he is! Thanks for taking the time to read this. Post honestly like I said I am young and new , feel free to correct me!
Only olf farts hey. You calling me an old fart at 28? lol. One thing that youi must remember is that there is not tomany other breeds outthere that can do as many jobs as a GDS. I will bet that there is not to many AB outhere that can keep up with my gsd in a track and have the energy to do protection at the end. Yes I have worked with AB and I found that one AB cant do as many jobs as a GSD. Protection is only a small part of what one dog is asked to do and one GSD can do all those jobs combined better than any other breed. Now yes a GSD is not as powerful as a AB but the all round ablity is uncomparable. You cant compare the 2 breeds. Its like comparing a Chevy vett with a hummer. Two different jobs and two different breeds. As for the 3000 to 1. Remember that not all shephers are build the same and that would bring the numbers down when it comes to working. Give the AB time and im sure that the general public will find time to ruin the breed like they did with the shepherds. Thanks to all the breeders that are still breeding to produce great working dogs and keeping the GSD what it is to realy do.
I have also seen a AB take a "dog catcher" down at a show ( the same guy who had 4 or 5 GSD's before the AB)
 Here we go again........Well I have seen a KNPV Mal take a "dog catcher" down at a "working dog show" (the same guy who had 2 or 3 AB's before the Mal).......The FACT is, that you will go through a *LOT* more AB's to find a good one, than you will have to go through to find a good GSD, or Mal.......I've personally been down that road.
Yes I agree .. re read my post I dont think you focused your attention where it needed to go back and see that I said keep the GSD for working dogs your right , but go out order a few pizza's and get a 24 pack invite your friends over and watch your AB hang from a tree for 5 mins stright at a time and remind your self thats like a 110lb man hanging from his jaws not a 40 - 75lb gsd I have taking 2 bites in my life from a mal and GSD I am a bodybuilder 235 16%bf not in bad shape I was picking them up and walking with them I was not impressed sorry boys <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
You guys are right its like compareing vett to hummer , but I dont see a GSD as fun now I will say this I have seen a mal and dutch shepard trained so well it made me want shout and gasp with every command I hope to own one I just dont like the fact that people are taking something away from the american bulldog before it has it chance to make it outta the south. As far as energy goes I dont think you guys know what its like to live with a AB try it .... NONE STOP sun up to sun down like I said I am sure I can find about 10 AB owners that would love to hold a contest I will fund the whole thing and we can even have some rewards set up let me know!

I'll consider keeping a topic like this open in the future when someone posts cold, hard facts to back up these type of claims. But we get a post like this at least every month, on the average - but I have yet to see anyone post facts to back up those claims.
And before the AB folks cry foul, I've been to bull dog shows. For hog catching, they're without equal - but for protection, sorry, they're third rate
