The one here in Asheville, NC on Brevard Road.
Can you believe I was BANNED from another board that I was a member of just for asking if people who did use prongs could post pictures of their dogs wearing them for a pamphlet I'm doing to help people understand how they're supposed to be worn and used. I wanted pictures of different breeds so that people could see what it's supposed to look like on those breeds, because everyone doesn't have a dobie and most people, unless they see it applied to their breed, can't understand that they're not fitted properly.
All I did was ask for those people that did use them to post pics of their dogs wearing it, and I got this nasty e-mail from one of the managers (nevermind the horrible spelling and grammar):
"Kristen,
The usage of prong collars are CREWL and barbaric, It was instructed to me if the converstaion came up again, out you went. Your now banned from the group woofs and wags.
One thing i want you to realize, it ONLY TAKES 2 TO 3 POUNDS OF PRESSURE TO CRUSH A DOGS LARANAX. is this what you want to promote?
Since you are dead set on this and wont listen to reason from us or any other group as YOU WAS TOLD about.
Then you are NO longer welcome at ours.
Watch what you publish and give out kristen, it could very well come back and bite you in the ass good. And if your promoting the usage of prong collars, I HOPE IT DOES!!!
Mal Mom
Manager"
I had never even posted anything else about them, other than just to say that I used one on my dog. Never did I get a warning or anything. To be honest, it kind of hurt my feelings, but that's fine. If they want to go along being happy and ignorant, that's their problem.

Now I'm certainly not the world's best speller ( English not being my native language ) but wow.....that was some *awesome* butchery of English!
I'm thinking that I won't be welcome as a poster on the "wags and woofs" group.
Don't worry, Kristen - we're glad that you're here now! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Yep, I come up with doosies when writing English (also not my first or second language), but think I can come up with better grammar and spelling than that -- not to mention better vocabulary ... Sheesh
Anyhow, she (?) made the same point, without even realizing it -- you can damage a lot even with a flat collar. The prong has nothing to do with it -- just the lack of knowledge on how to use it properly. Sighhh. Find 'em everywhere.
Well, that kind of irked me because for one, a trainer should be better educated than that, and two, a trainer should be open to all kinds of training devices (and know how to properly use them) rather than trying to talk someone out of buying one just because she didn't like it.
I agree with this. Even Ed is against choke collars, but he uses what looks like a nylon version when dealing with aggressive dogs and talks about "HANGING THEM" by the collar. Why? Because it's the difference between having the dog put to sleep or breaking his behavioral issues...that's how I think the best trainers operate.
BTW-let me know if you are still looking for pictures for your pamphelet. I might be able to get some shots from a few different breeds.

YES, I'm definately still stockpiling pictures! If you can get some of the same dog wearing both a correctly and incorrectly fitted collar it would be great, but if not, that's ok too.
The difference between using the dominant dog collar, as Ed calls it, and the choke chain or slip collar is that the dominant dog collar isn't used in the same manner that people use slip collars. Slip collars are used every day, and are used to deliver sharp, repetitive corrections. The dominant dog collar (as I understand) isn't used to give 'corrections' the same way that slip collars are. They are used to take the breath away from the dog when it tries to attack the handler.
