I don't think this will be the end of the DVG, but USA has problems on the horizon.
DVG America is just one branch of the largest working dog training assocaition in the world and has a good following of people that like to compete in the DM.

Annis and or the oils extracted are in fact a natural repugnent to dogs. Your question is a very good one that I would love to hear a creditable answer to.
In regard to the AKC and the working dog program.
Well I have been saying for years that this was going to happen. I am also of the opinion that it will also increase awareness of legit working dog programs.
For sure the K9 Rodeo and dash for cash routines will take a further back seat to the legit sports.
The AKC is all about numbers so logic says that working dog activities will increase also with the AKC in the picture.
So, any bets on how long this new relationship will last.
I can speculate why they used anise oil.
First, the US Military requested of its venders for started dogs that they be trained on anise in their four hole variable test for lackland. This was so they could take them in the direction of explosives or narcotics as they deemed necessary.
Where did the military get the idea? I don't know but the old kapok and canvas bumpers used for field dogs used to be scented with anise (maybe they still are?).
The tests for the second part of the AKC program look suspiciously like IPO. About time AKC came to grips that they are being left in the dust when it comes to this particular working discipline. The first group of tests are simply hard to understand. Are they going to follow a track to a scent ID problem????? Pretty weird stuff on that end of it. Maybe they are trying to gear towards the S&R crowd w/ these tests?
Perhaps the reasoning behind this then Kevin is if the dog can hit and indicate on a neutral scent that is repugnent. The dog can easily be cross trained to indicate on the scent needed by the military.
