Many people will say "BAH! what do some of these books know that I don't already?" BUT, a well rounded "canine" education includes reading a selection of materials to get different perspectives on the same ideas.
Forget the lists that rank breeds in terms of "intelligence" (although I'm glad mine is #2) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> and focus instead on the descriptions of the various forms of what the author deems as canine "intelligences".

Learn how personality affects an individual dog.
Understand and appreciate the evolution of the canine mind, and why and how some breeds "learn" the way they do.
And remember, any one dog within it's breed can be both more or less than the "list" implies.
