Purely Positive Training - Comapanion to Competition by Sheila Booth
How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend by the Monks of New Skete
Positive Perpsectives by Pat Miller
The Dog Listener by Jan Fennel
I was wondering if anyone here had experience with any of these books? if so what one would you reccomend for someone who was a first time high drive dog owner? Any you would consider a MUST have by every first time dog owner?
Hands down, Purely Positive is the best. Although I really like this book, I still feel there is a time and place for corrections.
The Monks is an ok book but they still preach that Alpha roll BS.
Beside the fact that the Monks books are remedial 30 year old school training I have always had issues with people who sell their books based on their religion. But hey we could always use THE CATHOLIC's GUIDE TO DOG TRAINING or THE JEWISH METHOD OF TRAINING YOUR DOG TO HEEL.
The dog listner:- if you know nowt about dogs and training then it's not a bad book, can't say i would use it to raise a high drive dog, i met her when i had my over the top high drive bitch who had a real dog agression see and kill, when i spoke to her about it she said that some dogs just don't like other dog's,like i didn't know that already, she was no help at all,so not much faith in her for real problems, just reverted to my old ways of training, and reduced the problem
got both her books on the book shelf just gathering dust.Helan
