I've seen some pics of decoy showing off their scars and bruises on their bodies after a body suit bite work. I'm wondering how safe those bitesuits are?
Well, you're twisting inside your bitesuit to allow the dog to bite the suit, not your body - watch a good French Ring decoy doing his suit work, it's a art form!
However, injuries are going to occur with limb bites on a pretty regular basis, if the dogs have strong grips.
You can decrease the injuries by adding additional layers of protective gear under the suit - neoprene gauntlets are popular to prevent "pinching", but I've started going to wearing a full hidden sleeve also under the suit for protection against a real bruiser Mal import that's currently in training with us.

You're right Will; it's all about technique. In France they see it as...the fewer bruises; the better the trial decoy (note I said trial).
hmmm...they tend to get embarrassed over there if they get bruised...and here they show off their bruises lol
But in fairness it also depends on the program....in some the decoy is almost stationary and must stand still while the dog 'chews on him'...in others the decoy is never static and will oppose and move continuously which makes it very difficult for a dog to get a good grip and bruise (hence the term 'slipping the bite')...
The training suits are pretty safe...be it ring or whatever...The trial suits in ring are another matter...The emphasis is on mobility/flexibility and not as much on protection...but that's when a 'good decoy' comes in...
i find that wearing spandex under the suit gives you a little more of an advatage when slipping the bite. i haven't tried any inserts yet, though. if you come across the right dogs, they'll teach you how to get away inside the suit.
