My border collie recently had a litter, so she's been staying in the house more often. I let her out to use the bathroom several times a day. However, during the night she's going to the bathroom on my carpet. Same spot everytime. Although I have a carpet shampooer and clean regularly the problem is we live in military housing and will most asuredly be required to replace the carpet now. My question is: How can I get her to change her "Bathroom Spot" to a linoleum area, where it's much easier to clean up?
I would just set my alarm and get up with her once at night and take her out. You don't want her to get into the habit of going on the floor at night and thinking that is acceptable. That's a very bad habit to get into and an expensive one for you. Then after the pups are gone see if she doesn't go back to holding it all night long. Also make sure it's not a urinary tract infection and making her have the urgency to go and not hold it. After she weans the pups and is ready to dry up I would also limit her intake of water. I would cut her off at like 6 p.m. and that will also help her to dry up faster...Hope this helps
Mrs .Smith your dog may have a UTI and you might want to check that out first. The other thing is that you do not want to tranfer the dogs bathroom time to another place in the house ,i am very much in aggreement with another members post set the clock take her outside to go to the bathroom. Carpet retaines smells of urine to dogs
undetected by humans ,that is why she is going in the same spot. Good luck .Peter
Don't let her urinate anywhere in the house. Having puppies is not an excuse to go in the house. Have her vet checked for urinary tract infection. Take her outside every two hours during the day, at least once during the night. Limit water at night and close the bathroom door.
