Alrighty, back to dog training!
ROFL...That's great!
(whoops, does this make me a sycophant? )
I work on a Urban Search and Rescue team. I have been involved with USAR for multiple years.I have 2 checz dogs and one from the Netherlands. My checz dogs (both bitches) are extreme in their work. My Male, Tango, is a great dog and a moosh but when it comes to insane work ethic..my checz dogs win hands over.
I would not reccommend a Checz dog for a novice unless they were training with a very good and experienced /trainer/helper/club. I find that weekend warrior training does not cut it for my checz dogs.more like 4 tiems a week
I had the opportunity to evaluate a litter of Czech pups of which I took the male. Two other females had incredible drive but there was one that would have been fine with a novice; she appeared very docile and the breeder wisely said that she was not going to attempt to sell her to a working home only to have the person disappointed. Of course, kids gravitate to that one...
But as to the original premise, I think it is good advice. It is a generalization, but principles are not built on the exception. We will always have them, but overall, I think a novice starting with a Czech working line pup is going to have his hands full.
here is my pup at 9 weeks. I know, I know, but everyone that has this type of drive does this...even if just once!
I agree. I think these dogs are descended from the East German Bloodline dogs, but because many were used by the Border Patrol, this bloodline is a strong working bloodline, but in experienced hands.
I would say this bloodline, speaking in very general terms, and of course exceptions are true on a dog by dog basis, is something like 60% defense drive and 40% prey drive. This is a good dog for personal protection or police work, but for a sport dog, you want it the other way around, 70% prey drive, and 30% defense drive.
