Hello Everyone:
I don't know if this is the correct place for this thread, so here it goes. I was trying to help a fellow Deputy out and trying to help him locate a good K9 dual purpose prospect. My friend will be a first time handler but is having a hard time finding a reputable breeder, importer that he feels comfortable dealing with. Trying to be the good friend that I am, I turned him on the this site and gave him the names of a few of the more "commonly known" sites that offers Czech dogs for sale. He spent the weekend trying to contact various people and he spoke to me today and was very disappointed. He wanted answers to some questions and I figured that I would also post them here, because truthfully I couldn't give him good answers.
1. Why are the same dogs listed on 3-4 different sites?
2. Who really has the dog and who is acting as the importer or additional importer and thereby increasing the fees on each dog that they import?
3. Why as breeders or importers are the prices (almost) never listed on dogs? I know this can reflect additional training that the dog is going through, but why don't they list ball park or varying levels of costs on the dogs? You know, if his budget is $3000-$3500 for a green dog, how does he know if he is looking at a dog in that range or if he is looking at a dog that is $5000+ and wasting his time by making inquiries on dogs that are twice the price level that he can afford to spend?
4. He saw a dog that he was interested in listed on three different sites. He spoke to two people and the price was over $1K difference for the same dog?
5. If feels if this is going on with the price, how can he be sure about xrays and papers and tattoo's on the dog or if they are really what they say they are?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brandon

There is nothing wrong having the dog on several different sites for sale, the owner has contacted several brokers and asked them to try and sell the dog for him and he still has possession of his dog. The prices usually are not listed, they don't want other brokers to know how much they are selling the same dog for therefore the other broker can't undermind them by cutting the price by few dollars. There is a set price that the owners wants for his dog and different brokers wants to make different profit. One wants $500 and the other $1500 profit. It is like selling a Krups coffee maker in 3 different stores and having a 3 different prices but it is still the same coffee maker and it comes from the same factory:-)
The dog is most likely still in Europe, and several different people are trying to sell this dog. I prefer only to buy dogs that someone has in thier kennel. As far as x-rays and stuff, you can never be sure unless the person your buying the dog from knows the dog from puppyhood.
You can get a good dog but you must do your homework. There are alot of people in Europe that could careless about selling you a good dog......they just want the cash. If you do not do your homework, the whole thing could turn into nightmare.
