I don't have any experience with DNA testing my own dogs but surfing the OFA website I noticed they offer this service. I know AKC does as well.
Do any of you out there have experience with this and does the dog have to be tested by a certain organization to have the DNA recognized by that specific group?? (i.e. if you have testing done by OFA is it acceptable to the AKC?) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Hope this makes sense.
Cindy, The AKC has a DNA kit cost $40.00. They have a special section on DNA. I think you can get multiple dogs discounts as in doing a complete litter.
It's very simple to do. Take a swab of salavia, place in return container.
I haven't done this to my pup, going to do OFA prelims first.
if you have a stud dog that has been used for breeding more than 3 times ( i believe it is three times) and if you want to register a litter of pups from that stud with the akc they are now requiring that you submit a dna swab for testing . they normally send a letter to you about that particular stud dog and where to send off for the dna kit. i am not 100% positive but if you fail to do so then i don't think that they will register that litter. i could be wrong here , but this is what i remember going through a couple of years ago.
Ok, I think what Cindy was looking for was an answer to the original question... which was are the DNA tests interchangeable. Does AKC accept the OFA tests.
I asked if she had heard anything at the seminar, because I too wonder how it works. For ex. the stud dog my pup is out of is DNA'd with the SV, so how does that work with the ACK?
