i dont know if this is a dumb question or not but i must have it answered! is it possible for a bitch to fall pregnant with more than one dogs at the same time? or will only one dog be the papa?
sorry but i have heard this alot of times so i want to know if it is true
Since the sperm can live in the vagina for a couple of days the bitch could be receptive to more than one stud and conceive a litter with mutiple sires. AKC now has a program where you can register multi-sired litters with DNA. It is a matter of who swims the fastest
Look at bitches at pounds. It is not unusual to see litters that OBVIOUSLY have more than one daddy.
Always funny when you see this with pet dogs or strays.
My neighbor, the vet  , had a litter with his Border Collie. It was obviously out of his male GSD(that I gave him ) and his son's pitt. They looked funny at about 12 months old when they got together for a family reunion.
I take in rescues every now and then. One of our clients at the vet clinic needed a home for her dog's "littermate" --her dog is a GSD. Imagine my surprise when she comes over with what looks like a blk/wht cattle dog
Same mama--definitely different papa's!!
As for how it happens....a bitch releases more than one egg when she ovulates, that's why dogs have litters. If she mates with more than one dog.....etc.
