Noticing there isn't a section on the board for non-problematic dog behavior, I thought I'd post my question here as it dealt with my dog's reaction to gun (firecracker) fire, something that will eventually become part of her protection training. This 4th of July I decided to expose Nila to my childrens' firecracker display and I'm not sure how to interpret her reaction. As soon as the first firecracker was lit and exploded, she started barking fervently (like I've never seen her do) and it took all the strength I had to keep her from charging at it. For the firecrackers that would explode in the air and shoot *stars*, she'd jump up in the air in an attempt to get at them. She didn't even flinch at the finale *bombs* (the ones that set off all of the auto alarms in the neighborhood). How do I interpret her behavior? This was her first exposure to any type of explosive.
Sounds to me she is reacting to stress by trying to either chase it away or bite it.But she recovered very quickly at the end.Must be a dog with a strong temperament.I Would think this type of dog needs a strong, firm handler or may be hard to controll.
