My suggested small yapper wouldn't necessarily be a JRT for some though. Referred to by many as Mini-Mals <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> , they can be as much of a handful as any high drive, working breed. It al depends on the individuals needs and abilities.
With all due respect to the noble little JRT, owning one sounds like a recipe for insanity.
Those desperate or confident enough to ignore the posted warnings were allowed to approach my front door (particularly at night), but no movement thereafter. My bullmastiff would hold them, sometimes in complete silence.
Couldn't really complain, since that is what he was bred to do. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
The addition of a McNab (40-50lb herding dog) solved that problem completely. She will not approach a tresspasser before noisily nagging the bully as though he were a recalcitrant sheep!
I can adjust the sensitivity of my 'canine alarm system' by moving the McNab.
Not sure if this is an option for you Mark,
but Will & Bob's advice has worked wonderfully for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That's been suggested about me more than a few times. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
