The Canine and Detection Research Institute of Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Canine Instructor. **This position is located at McClellan, AL. This position is dependent on extramural (i.e., contract and grants) support.** The individual will provide training of dogs for substance detection tasks (e.g., explosive and illicit drug
detection) and conduct field and classroom instruction of canine handler candidates. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting in operations of a canine breeding program; conducting public demonstrations; outreach; and general operations of the Training Center.
The minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or GED and three years of direct canine training experience with federal agencies or organizations with major canine detection/training programs or a Bachelor's degree plus one year of prior work experience in structured course training and development of dog-handler teams in law enforcement scenarios. The ability to obtain a DOD or equivalent security clearance is required.
Experience in the following areas is desired: canine drug and explosive detection, tracking and patrol; law enforcement; school safety; handler instruction; classroom and practical instruction of any topic; public speaking; and research.
