I have a two year old GSD, bred from old Dutch LInes, and have what I think is the complete package for moving the bitch on to KNPV.
I have everything in abundance, exept the hold and bark. No mattter what and no matter where. When she "OUTS" the jacket she will not bark. She settles on an extreme focus, much like a Belgium Shepherd, until the helper moves where she nails him instantly.
I have tried everything from puppy level to now, ball/food/agitation, but still no bark.
Don't get me wrong, in every other phase she will bark her head off and mean it, but not in the Hold and Bark.
Welcome to the club! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
You are lucky though, my bitch (mal x) won't bark at all...
Today i tried frustrating her again (first time she almost nailed me from frustration) with ball hung high on tree where she can't reach it. No bark. Jumped like maniac first half of hour, than showed me all she knows, sit, down etc. Than started jumping again.
In the end i gave her command to down, gave her ball for that and went home.
I was told to teach her to bark on command and only than to introduce helper...
Still working on that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Does your dog do a H&B in the blind? This is the only place where it's necessary. I wouldn't worry about barking in the guarding after the out. Keep the work on barking at the find blind, and don't mess with the rest. Sometimes we mess up a good thing trying to make it better.
Sorry...editing here. Reread and saw your dog won't do a hold & bark. But I still stand by my previous opinion.
