I thought I would post this because I just got an email that supposedly came from frawley@leerburg.com. It was some weird email message, that I know didn't come from Ed, especially since the email address I received it at is NOT the email address that I signed up with and I've never emailed him from that address. In addition, I compared the full headers on this email with one from an email that I know came from Ed, and they came from different places.
I just wanted to warn you guys that someone is sending emails out as if they're coming from Ed's email address.
I just did a quick search on this because there was a file attachment called snoopy.exe. It looks like this is one of the attachments that's going around that has the Klez worm. So, if you get an email from frawley@leerburg.com with the subject line of "A Special Excite Game" don't even open it, cause it looks like it has virus potential.
Yeah, I'm the same way. In fact, my email account is scanned with MacAfee and actually didn't even let the attachment through. I saw that there was supposed to be an attachment when I checked the Advanced Headers.
Just wanted to let everyone know in case they get the same thing. I'm sure there are some really trusting people out there who wouldn't think anything of it.
Yep. I'm just drolling over possibility of going back to vi, sed & emacs for text editing. Of course, there is always nroff & troff to get a fancy formatted document. These are the programs that run on *real* computers. If you don't understand and adore them, go back to using a sharp stick and a mud puddle.
Going back to spending $8k for a database rather than $600 will be great fun too.
If you don't like the Microsoft world, use something else. It's out there and available. Oops, I forgot. Viruses, worms and other nasty stuff were originally developed on *real* computers. So, no safe harbor there when running non-MS OS and programs.
For the rest of us, we will just not open attachments or run strange programs. It's like going to a dog park. It may be fun, but it's a generally bad idea to run whatever is handed to you.
