I got a call tonight that my 1st cousin was attacked in her home and murdered. I hadn't seen her in years nor have I had much contact with her. But of course this was a very sad call to get.
If she had had a good PPD dog it's very probable she would still be alive. It's probably the bad guy would have just kept on going.
Coincidentally about a month ago a good friend of the family, a 20 yr. old woman who lives with her 45 yr. old mother, walked into her kitchen one afternoon only to be confronted by a strange man. They fought and the man was getting the better of her until the woman's mother walked in, at which point the bad guy fled.
I have 2 GSD's and could not imagine not having them or dogs like them. How many home invasion/burglary victims have PPD dogs or even big, barking dogs? I bet the percentages are real low. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't fret when things go bump in the night.
I've had family and friends down and some of them have seen video of my dogs doing bite work. I've sensed that some of them may have felt it unnecessary to have such a dog(s). I bet they don't feel that way anymore.
I agree with you, I don't worry about the house. My PSD barks as soon as someone hits the drive, and you aren't getting in unless I let you in. Just the other day a friend of mine came over to drop some stuff off, I wasn't home but my girlfriend was. Even though My PSD knows him, he would not let him in, he stood his ground and just kept barking. My girlfriend is very pleased that he does this, she feels extremely safe with him in the house.
