Anyone here use them? They seem to have gotten a lot better in design and since I am going to be traveling I was wondering how they hold up for a large dog? I think Gunther would be ok with it, because if I just shut the door on his vari kennel and don't latch it, he doesn't try to get out so I don't think he would shred the stuff.
He did escape his crate at training once and decided to run my TD's FH2 track.... Weenie search! Honestly I don't think I latched the door right though.
Everyone in agility uses them. They're extremely handy, and they hold up well to NORMAL use, but obviously if the dog decides to chew on it, it won't last 5 minutes. If you have a calm dog that you really trust to behave, they're fine, but awfully pricey. It would never hold up to a dog who gets excited while bitework is going on.
Yeah, I would only want it for the motel room and visiting my grandparents house in FL. I know if there was any agitation going on I would have a dog at large.
There are a couple of wire folding crates that may hold up better with a more determined dog than with the plastic folding crates. I don't like the latches on the wire crates and an escape artist will open then easily. That can be cured with a couple of clips to keep the door closed.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
I have a wire folding crate already, but it is newfie size... I am looking for something light and easy to move. I can only get a 500 in the car with crisco and strong determination and I am going to have to put my luggage and the puppy's crate somewhere!
The newer mesh crates seem much more sturdy than the ones that came out a few years ago. The ones in the store here are cordura with a heavily coated mesh behind the other mesh that is like the lawn furniture stuff. I don't know what brand they are off hand but they are not rectangular they are more tunnel shaped, thus no corners to get a hold of.
I know there are people who use them out there who have working dogs, I remember seeing a few at the flinks seminar.
Drs. Foster and Smith have great folding wire crates. I use it as my house crate and it's really the best quality crate I have owned. I also like the facr that it has two doors. It comes in handy in certain situations..
Just buy a small pop up tent, the kind you throw and it opens on it's own. I'm sure it would be cheaper
Pop-up-tent, yea great. . .just what I need. The friggin dogs rolling across the protection field like hampsters on a wheel every time the helpers pull out the sleeves or suits.
