How cold is too cold to train?
The club I have been observing met the other night for 2 hrs outside on a cold clear night and when I got back in the car the thermometer read 18 degrees!
The dogs were not out the whole time, they were in and out of their crates in the backs of trucks/SUVs (bitework night), but I know of another club that doesn't meet if it is less than 35 degrees out.
So safety wise how cold and for how long?
I know I was freezing MY #$$ off!

It would seem to me in general situations a dog without the ideal GSD coat could work without any problem in cold weather. Meaning that a human would turn into an icicle long before the dog.
When it comes to dogs with slick coats, Dobs, Rotts, APBTs, Dogos, ABs, etc. how fast does it take them to wear thin in the harsh cold? Does it depend on the weight of the breed?
I mean this question in general terms. I'm sure one dog can be found anywhere to out do or match anyone's story. lol
check out this item for the short coated dog http://www.coldspotfeeds.com/product.asp?idProduct=304&idShopper=26674&id1=42405772&idBasket=
I just bought one of the belly coats for my recently spayed alaskan husky. very nice windproof coat made for dogs to run in unlike most dog coats. might be something doberman owners would be interested in.
Very short coated dogs with no undercoat at all can shiver off weight pretty quickly. Cold temps
usually mean a increased need for calories and increased fat in the diet in cold temps.
