Do any board members use a training log to keep track of progress? I have not but with the holidays my training has become alittle sporatic. I'm thinking about keeping a log similar to a work out journal at the gym.
I would think with multiple dogs this would be especially important. Any one want to share their routines?
yes, we keep a journal!!!
We keep track of tracking mostly, in which we make notes on wind conditions, weather conditions, length of track, bait/no bait, turns, difficulty of track, etc etc.
But for obedience & protection, we just use it to keep tabs of anything that pops up, where we are in training, how well they performed an exercise, where they are in training, etc.
I also make notes of all things including interactions with new people, responses to new areas, etc etc. We keep a very thorough notebook (actually need to expand to a 3-5 subject notebook for each dog).
I have always kept logs on the dogs that i am tracking ,its a good training tool to help you remember if a problem arises, and something to help you refer back to if the same problem comes up again . Weather conditions ,age of track, food drops ,and lengh of the tracks and how many tracks that you are running for each dog.
I do not keep logs on the dogs for obedience or protection ,but do have goals of what needs to be worked on .And goals of what titles i want to do that year with each dog. Peter
Absolutely! I create my own training log sheets on the computer for the task at hand, then on training day, fill in the blanks! Training records are comprehensive and you can always go back and modify if your need changes.
It is good for training, health records, interactions, ect. Don't forget to keep a journal, during training, on yourself as well!
Thanks for the responses. Another thing to put on my New Years resolution list. Keep a journal for training..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
