I've just come across another dog discussion board and I told them I was against dog parks and why. Well they jumped all over me. How can your dog be socalized if you don't allow it to run with other dogs, they say. I explained pack mentality, but they just don't get it. Does anyone know if the British have leash laws?
They have a law for *everything* in the UK Kim, so I'm pretty sure that they have strong leash laws.
And thanks for trying to educate the masses of pet owners, it's a thankless task, eh?
I'm giving up, these idiots just don't get it. They have been lucky so far. The called me cruel to not let my dog run loose in the country. They say they have never had any problems with strange dogs, and they a losoe dog can retreat and "save face". I refuse to talk with the fools anymore.
Sadly, you will be in the minority on this subject. It is a wide spread belief that dog parks are a good thing. This is idiotic. All you can do is worry about yourself and your own dog.
Just goes to show that just because a majority of people believe something, it dosen't mean they are correct.
Everything has a law in the UK - LMAO - I will pass comment on that! But that just say, from a born and bred Brit, living in the USA - that the UK is certainly not the country with law issues!!
To add, not only in 27 years in the UK have I ever come across a single dog park, but I have seen more loose dogs, and irrisponsibility concerning dogs in the 3 years I have been in the USA, than I have seen my entire life in the UK.
You have heard the term 'kennel blind' right?? Apply the same philosiphy to your country!
At this time I find it appropriate to say God bless America and our great friends and partners in liberation Great Britain!!
Now that I have gotten past the warm fuzzy love stuff let me say that Sammy, I don't think anyone was taking shots at the Brits. I sense a defensive nature to your response.
If you lived in England for 27 years and never saw a dog park, then that is definately something I wish people over here would take note of and stop the stupid practice of opening them up. You are correct in pointing out the overwhelming number of irresponsible dog owners in this country. It is clearly an epidemic.
Sammy, most of the people that were on the board were British. They stated that they did use dog parks, maybe it's a new thing. More alarming was that many of them let their dogs run free in parks where children play too. I feel this is just asking for trouble.
Chuck
You smart little person you!
You just explained why these United States are not, I repeat NOT, a democracy. A whole lot of the time the majority are not right. That is why we are a constitutional REPUBLIC. Governed by the law not emotional masses.
I agree with the dog park issue . I don,t go there.
As a ex-cop in a small town, I cn honestly say dogs loose are a uge problem.
I am going to close this thread. Ed has a good article on why dog parks are a bad Idea. This has also been discussed many times in other threads. I don't think we need to have another multi-page thread on this subject so I am cutting it before it gets there. Idiots are idiots. sometimes you will never convince them otherwise.
