I have a rottie puppie and am wondering if there is any good way to tell how big he will get. at 11 weeks he was 19lbs 9 oz, 12 wks 25.4, and at 14 1/2 weeks he is around 34 lbs. I think I have a monster sized dog in my future. anyone with any Ideas on how big, the trainer told me up to 150lbs? I hope he gets that big, as long as its healthy big.
A 150 lb Rott? No such thing, unless it's *very* fat. Your trainer is either kidding you or he doesn't know what he's talking about. Rotts are meant to be a large breed, not a giant breed. A 115-120 lb male Rott is standard for the breed.
There is no way to accurately predict a dogs future size by it's childhood weight. You can't do it with humans and you can't do it with canines....it's that simple.
I do understand the breed standard, and because there is a breed standard doesnt mean all dogs conform to it. I have seen a 165 lb rottweiler who wasnt fat,(very tall and very stocky) and My old roommate had had a 45 lb full blooded female shepherd. I am not trying to be snide, I am just stating my view. As for my trainer, She has worked with enough large and giant breeds to give me a general idea. That is all I want is a general idea.
I understand that it's your view Bill. And I'm not being snide either. My only point is that I've owned and showed Rotts since the early 1970's when there where only a few thousand in the the entire country here. I've been to Europe several times, and I've seen Rotts in at least twelve different countries overall. And in the several hundred Rotts that I've seen with my own eyes, I've never seen a non obese Rott over 130ish lbs max.
