DFrost I was *not* talking about breeding GSDs who are undersize per the standard, I was talking about breeding GSDs who suffer from pituitary dwarfism, a very serious genetic disorder that causes a lot of suffering and a very short life expectancy.
I've no clue how you got from there to creating toy breeds or whatever your point was.
David to make a toy dog you have to breed smaller dogs to smaller dogs, not dwarves. This takes a lot of time. This is how the mini horse got started. It took 400 years of breeding to produce this, starting with small arabian horses.
I have had 3 very small GSDs in my rescue - could be mixed, no papers, but all looked purebred. 2 were stellar, one was a nightmare. I would not be surprised if someone in my area is breeding mini GSDs as a BS marketing ploy.
well i went to that website and i am mortified of what i saw, i feel bad for these freakish dogs, from what i read, they have lots of problems health and mental, and i certianly hope no one would purposely breed them. many of them don't live long at all. i thought it interesting that the ones on the site i read about were from regular gsd parents and most if not half of the liters were normal.
These mini gsd should be culled and put out of their misery, I can't imagine breeding for profit into a world of suffering and pain. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
