I see a lot of people here have the sable, tan, red and black GSD..what about the white, and why do they seem to be looked down upon so much by the AKC? Do they too have the same problems that white boxers have..deafness, more prone to the breeds health problems(all the bad genes)? I think they are as equally beautiful as all the other GSD colors, I wouldn't mind owning one someday, but I wondered what they deal was, for some reason they just don't seem as popular and was wondering if someone could explain to me why?

White german shepherds are not as popular because they tend to have a lot of temperament problems. For the most part they have been bred for color without regard to health and temperament. A lot of inbreeding went on to cement the color.
You may find a white GSD who has a decent temperament, but "good ones" (I use the phrase loosely) are hard to find. Many are skittish and can easily turn to fear biters.
My aunt has a wonderful white GSD, for a pet, but she got lucky. Of course the dog has no drive and not the greatest conformation but she is a good pet.
I would highly recommend staying away from the white GSD, they are beautiful, but can be a lot of trouble and heart break.
Hope this helps.
yes, they did rename it, but not here in America. Basically, it is now a new breed, started in Switzerland (but most of their foundation stock is from the US). Only dogs out of that stock are considered the BBS (Berger Blanc Suisse). So here, they are still registered as GSDs, albeit with white coloring.
EEK I just looked it up on the web and she isn't sh^tting us Will that is really what they have been named, there is even a breeder over here in the states selling these too! I am trying to find a price on these...so next question if you were to take this so called "Swiss White Shepherds" and breed it to a REAL Shepherd, would they consider this a mix-breed dog?? This is the craziest thing I have heard and by the way what I saw of the ones for sale over here, they are kinda ugly.
