Really, I am not sure what this would bring to my breeding program. I may never add him in. I have alot more studying to do on his lines before I could answer that.
As far as differences, the first thing comes to mind is play. Maximus(my new pup) seems more animated and playful. My czech line pups play as hard as anyone...they just strike me as it is a serious play. Almost the attitude of snooty. Maximus bounces all over and doesn't seem to 'worry' what others think of his antics. He seems very goofy.
Using the cartoon analogy, if I had to pick attributes to the pups it would be...Maximus-Woody Wood Pecker....Czech pups(my lines) Spike the bulldog.
Your explination of your pup sounds like the others I have heard. Alex on this board has one too. I have seen Nona's pup (we belong to the same club) I was told the main reason she sold him was because he was HUGE. 94lbs at 8 months - no fat. He looked good though and liked my 4 year old in the face the first time he saw him.
Todd, I would love to be kept up to date on your Bastin pup. I have a litter of almost 6 week old puppies by Bastin. They are out of my young SchH1 bitch Burgos' Unika. I am very pleased with the litter. They have to be the calmest puppies I have ever been around. They play hard, brutalize each other and any humans around and then settle. I can pick these pups up when they are sleeping and they will barely open their eyes.
I spent several days with Bastin and was very pleased with the dog's temperament, drives, and work. He is very strong in protection, will do absolutely anything for the ball, but is very calm and social while hanging out in the club house. I like a dog that can work hard and then has an off switch. He is also quite clear headed and can come off the field, out the sleeve and visit with spectators.
Todd & Lisa,
Please keep us all updated (privately if Ed would prefer these discussions not go on here) about traits and such. I'm considering breeding my Lewis Malatesta daughter to Bastin and any extra info on how he produces would help.
Also Lisa, some time I'd like to talk to you about Nike's sire, Harro. I've been looking at possibly using him and your input would be invaluable. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
