Im currious how much would it cost to ship a large dog within US. let say 80-100lb.

Vance, Point of origin and destination will determine the cost, as well as the shipper or airlines. However, I recently shipped my GSD from Atlanta to Hawaii and I will share that experience with you. I spent alot of time comparing the various means to do this. Originally I was quoted charges from $457 to as high as $1581. Most of the "clerks" who quoted these figures had little or no explanation for the costs. Some airlines no longer will accept animals as freight. Some will not allow the largest kennel, due to cargo door size. Most just didn't want the business. My family was ticketed on United and we had expected to have her travel with us. Then they changed policy and no longer carried animals. After dozens of calls we found the best option to be American Air Cargo. They knew what they were doing and even had a special department to handle animals. Final cost in the 500 series crate (40"x27"x30") was $559. Don't bother with the 700 series crate (48"x32"x35")as it would have cost 3x as much or would not fit most cargo doors. They took excellent care of our dog and went to the effort of arranging flights with the shortest stopovers. They also walked and watered her at the stop in Dallas. She arrived in good condition without incident. Don't forget the Health,Rabies and acclamation certificates that are required from your vet. Hope this helps.

Vance Time of year and if it's going excess baggage (with you) or cargo also make a large difference. Several airlines have a pet embargo between May 15 and Sep 15.

My best experiences have been with American Airlines and Delta. Both also give accurate quotes. Northwest was the most expensive. Worst was the office personnel at Lufthansa and cargo carriers at KLM (since then they've changed) both at San Francisco.
And yes, those 700 crates are a a total pain to ship. They only fit on certain planes, some airlines won't take them at all and they have to be shipped cargo.

Avoid Northwest Airlines at all cost if possible!! I used them once to get a K-9 from the Atlanta area to myself when I was living in Wisconsin. It was the single worst dog shipping episode in my entire career. Everything literally went wrong, with the exception that the dog did not die.

The airline, despite incredibly bad customer service and stupidity on a galactic scale, would not even apologize for their serial screw ups.

I would ride a dog for delivery on my bike before I'd use Northwest Airlines again. Consider yourself warned!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I receintly brought a 5 year old GSD from Tenn. to Calif. in a 500 crate for $189 Delta. all went well.
In the last six mo I've sent one pup in a 300 crate to Ohio and onepup in a 400 crate to Mass. from Calif. Both for under 200 each. Delta. no problems.
