OK? Someone please help me out. As bad as it may sound I'm buying a 100% GSP for $100 from someone that wouldnt be concidered a "breeder". I've met the parents of the puppy and they were well behaved, not aggresive or stressed by my presence. I've seen the conditions in which they were born and are being raised in. I missed out on obtaining the older brother of this puppy, which has be evaluated by a vet. The older brother has now been certified as far as hips and temperment and so on. My question is if these dogs are producing healthy pups mentally and physically, what makes these other $2500 dogs better than mine. Is it because of the rep of their parents, grandparents and so on?
Robert,
This would be my answer to your question:
bloodlines only matter if one is planning on breeding or has specific expectations of a dog.
In the first instance one needs to know the background gene contributions as breeding is a form of genetic engineering.
In the latter instance, one can not expect more from a dog than it is genetically capable of: ie, herding, hunting, protection, etc, all have a genetic component. (It would not be fair to expect a dog with little/no hunt drive to track or hunt for you.)
If neither of those are an issue, then it doesn't matter: just enjoy your new companion!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Sorry,
I see this as trolling, and this type of question has been asked many times in the past on this forum. And I'm getting kinda tired of it, to be truthful.
This is absolutely no different than a Chevy Chevette owner asking a Corvette owner why they think that they got a better car for spending more more. The answer is so apparent that either a) the person asking the question is doing so to stir the pot, or b)the owner asking the question is so absolutely clueless ( and already has his mind made up ) that no amount of logical discussion can convince the "bargin shopper" that he didn't make the right decision.
