Thanks for the advise. Freya is now biting the sleeve (on my arm). She is even getting a full bite on it!
BTW - I found a local Schutzhund club and will be doing some training with them - although I am more interested in street work than sport, I figure this will give me a good start.
Keep up the good work and you can expect another "call for help" at the next sticking point. In the mean while, here's a question, how much obedience work do you do with a young dog? I do about 5 min. twice a week, heel, sit, down and stay - keep corrections at a minimum. Is this too much? She doesn't have oodles of drive and I don't want to stiffle her...
No corrections at this point of the game. Lay a foundation through positive training that will last throughout the life of your dog. Ed has a great book on positive training. It's called Purely Positive. Well worth it.
Just one quick question. How is it that you have a 6 month old female that weighs 70 lbs?!? Many full grown adult female GSD's don't even weigh 70 lbs.
Just how much puppy chow are you feeding her? Don't mean to pester, but I get concerned seeing that much weight on such a young dog. A combination of heavy weight and excessive exercise could hurt you pup's still-forming hips.
I wonder what the bloodlines are in your dog. A 6 month old female whoi weighs 70 pounds. I have bred 270 or so litters of German working dogs and never had a female that wieghed this much at this age. I think there are American bloodline dogs that wiegh this much. These problems may be genetic issues and not training issues.
This past week I added a new product (new for us anyway) to our product line. Its a double handled tyug assembly that is shaped exactly like a sleeve with a bite bar. It's a way that a handler can move a dog from a tug to s sleeve at home without a helper. You can see pictures of it at: http://www.leerburg.com/800.htm
