Hello all,
I need some input on a line-breeding that's 3-5-5 Fero and 4-5-5-5 Askia. I'm curious as to how these pups would turn out. The dam is a V-rated SchH2 and the sire is a V-rated SchH3. Thanks for any and all posts...
P.S. When is line-breeding considered too much? And does the genes of a 5th generation dog show up in a new pup. I guess I'm asking, does the trainability in a dog's genes that's in the 5th generation and or beyond show up in the present pup?
I was asked this last night but couldn't give a convincing answer.
With that type of Fero line breeding I would almost bet that there will be a few nervy creatures with hectic prey drive. There may also be a few dogs that are ok nerved and have hectic prey drive that if channelled correctly, can be good sport or service dogs. What is the rest of the pedigree and who does Fero come through?
I would guess that it would depend on what the closer generations had, had passed on through the dogs in the 5th generation. If the poor attributes from Fero were passed onto the 4th and and that dog passed this onto the next generation, then sure it would matter quite a bit. If the dogs in the 4th generation had all of the good things that Fero was noted for passing on then that is not so bad, But here is the thing, the dogs in the 4th and 3rd generation could be good, but then the poor qualitys could crop up in the 2nd generation and so on. With such close line-breeding on one dog this is likley; that some pups will be great, and others will not.The purpose for line-breeding is to maintain type, this is tricky, and you get the good with the bad, and sometimes never any good, or never any bad.
For me, I would avoid this type of Fero line-breeding. I have seen alot of dogs that had temperment faults with alot of Fero in them. The good thing is though that is comes through Timmy and Troll, two of his best sons, and they produced nice dogs from what I have seen. But still this is just too much Fero.
