Small update.
ABC's 20/20 has a forum also. Every APDT member is on it (apparently <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ) letting Stossel know just how wrong he was for "not continuing his dog training with an APDT certified instructor."
Man, those people must have an impressive E mail alert system to get that many of them responding so quickly. And of course they're describing the "torture" that animals trained with a choke collar go through.
And of course the Halti-trainers came out in force also......what a big help those are with biting dogs.
But on the good side, at least some level headed people pointed out that Stossel simply doesn't have time to own a dog in a major metropolitan area and that perhaps he'd be better off owning fish instead.

Lisa, you are so right about one of the contributing causes of dogs being given up. When the reality check sets in and the novelty wears off it just isn't fun to alot of people and they bail out on the poor animal.
However, I don't get the same feeling as you about the article. The reason I don't is because he didn't actually accomplish anything. His dog was still not trained and Stossel hadn't in fact corrected the inappropriate behaviour through proper training. All he portrayed was a desperate owner who paid alot of money and got very liitle out of it.
Add insult to injury, he portrayed Ed's training as unfavorable, yet Ed's training might have been what would have really helped him!!
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
I didn't watched that show, but I've heard that dog was obedient with the trainers, but not with him. I think that proves the point you can't just send your dog away to be trained. Money simply can't buy it. I used to know a friend who spent freaking amount of money importing a very good dog, super obedient. And then his life went awry, had to give the dog away. After that, that dog's life was very harsh, transfered hands for many many times, Treated badly. I happened to see him a few months ago. man, they messed him up bad.
The happiest dog is to have someone care about him/her and understand him/her, and vice versa. You can't just throw money in to get that attention, obedience and affection...
I went to 20/20's site and started reading. I never laughed so hard in my life. I also sent Mr.Stossel a long detailed e-mail with my dissaproval of his use of Ed's tape and his stupidity in listening to the purley positive people. "DOG WHISPERER" PLEASE SPARE ME! I unfortunatly did see that show and the only good thing was when they did show Ed but the way they presented it was WRONG! These must be the same people who never punish their children and let them just "DEVELOPE" naturaly that theroy is why prisons are over crowded! I hope Ed goes after them and makes it right

After reading about 80 E mails on the 20/20 forum that basically bit*h slapped John Stossel around for the poor information that he provided on that TV story, I'm thinking that maybe he'll research his sources a little bit better in the future.
If has has writers that provide him stories for that show, he needs to educate them or replace them.
