I have a five month old rottie bitch.
Is my dog in prey drive when we play fight?
and am i the prey,
I dont have an tug or play toy at this time.Just 1 on 1.
She never bites me hard, more like mouthing.
i wondered if this is ok to do, as she loves a 5 min fight now and again.
i wondered if this may spoil her grip?
Although she does seem to know the difference, because when we play tug she gets a good grip (with her new back teeth)and holds on. until she is told to give.
I am new to this kind of training, and have always had house dogs for the kids to play with and they where sheperds.
I am in the uk, and have just found out the number for my local SCHz club.
Is my dog too young jet or should should i ring them now?
Q Is a protection dog a schz dog, are they 1 in the same? or is protection more than schz.
The more i write the more questions i have so i'll leave it at that for now and thanks.
PS if this should be in the protection dog training section, im sorry if u let me know i will move it, This computer stuff is new as well lol.
No, you're not the prey - you're in the same role as if the pup were playing with a littermate. It's just play fighting, and personally I love doing it with my dogs. It definitely doesn't affect their grip or their Schutzhund work. It's no different than allowing two dogs to play together. It's not too early to go to your schutzhund club because there are a ton of things you can be doing right now in the obedience and tracking, not to mention getting the dog used to crowds, dogs, noise, distractions, etc.
Schutzhund training and personal protection training are not the same.
