I really don't care to get off the wrong foot with this dog. He is a GSD from a rescue.
We have had him five months and he is 1 year old. I do not feel not qualified to work out his issues. We are not going to give out on him. We just need a little help (OK alot)
Are there any GOOD trainer that have any openings in the Northern IL area? I have tried calling one but I never can seem to get an appointment with the person who was recommend to us.
If anyone has any ideas or places to check it would be most helpful. We have been snubbed by a few places and they seemed to only want your Golden and Lab types.
Try getting a recommendation from one of the Schutzhund clubs in your area, I believe IL. has several of them. Go to the United Schutzhund Clubs of America website, they should have them all listed.
I think it depends on the type of training you want to do. There are several good Schutzhund clubs in that area and there are several good trainers in the city.
I've worked with Bill Kullas a bit with my pup and will work more with him this coming year. He's located at http://www.kulladogs.com. My pup is only 9 months old and will be ready for more Schutzhund helper work this coming year. His Schutzhund club trains to the NW of the city. He works with pretty serious working dogs - not sure if he does other types of training on the side.
I've worked more with Adrian Moreno (located at all-phases.com. His facilities are on the north side of Chicago, but still in the city). He has a French Ring club, but also does more general dog training and is very willing to work with pets and working dogs - or with just very active pets that some other trainers might not be ready to deal with. Adrian is great at working prey drive and pup bite development if that's what you want for your dog.
Thank you for all your help everyone. I made a few calls based on what I read from your input and we are meeting up with a few people on Sunday.
That you so much so the quick reply,we can hardly wait until Sunday. I will let you know how it goes, everyone we spoke to was very encouraging and positive.
