I went to seek a second opinion, on the problem my puppy was having while walking. Both vets, have said that hips are clear, however their diagnosis was different.
1) First one said he probably strained his knee, and that's why there was a discomfort
2) Second one, after looking at the X-rays, said it's 'growing pains'.
First one prescribed Phenylbutazone, second one Rimadyl ( 1 tablet a day) if needed
I did see a lot of info here on rimadyl, and all the side effects it has. However, I did not see anything on Phenylbutazone. Second vet says, that Phenylbutazone has not been used in the past 10 years, and that originally was used on horses.
Has anyone heard of PHENYLBUTAZONE???
And where does it stand in comparison to Rimadyl??
Rimadyl is a more modern drug. Phenylbutazone was used in humans in the past, it had a severe risk of decreasing white cell counts. For that reason it lost favor.
I would use neither of these drugs.. If you must use something.. use Ascription.. it is over the counter... and will not have the side effects of the other 2 drugs..
