David, believe me, we have a routine for checking the fence line around here. It worked perfectly for about 2.5 years. It only takes one small low spot unnoticed for one day for that dang Beagle to get out. We will do anything in our power to prevent road pizza. That's why we're looking at options to reinforce and further secure what we've already got.
Thanks to all of you for your input. We did make a decision to add an electronic fence and collars for all of our dogs, including the young GSD. The electronic fence is being installed "on" our physical fence today. We ultimately decided that our GSD is a treasured family member FIRST (as all of our dogs have been and will always be) and anything else second. At the end of the day, a dead dog makes the lousiest Schutzhund candidate.
I really do appreciate the input here which helped us move in this direction. I feel good in my heart knowing that we are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of all of our dogs.
